Boeing’s 777X test aircraft, WH002 has landed in Curaçao in the Caribbean for a series of flight tests in tropical conditions.
The island’s warm and humid climate of around 87°F (30°C) with 76.7% humidity is utilized by engineers to assess the aircraft’s performance under high temperatures and moisture levels. These and flight tests in other parts of the world are required to ensure the 777X operates efficiently and reliably in various climates around the world.
WH002 flew from Boeing Field near Seattle for 7 hours and 25 minutes before arriving at Curaçao on February 11, 2025.
Boeing plans to complete FAA certification and deliver its first 777-9 next year. The larger capacity 777-9 is Boeing’s newest aircraft and is designed to seat more than 400 passengers.
The aircraft, development of which started in 2011, features folding wingtips and is powered by the GE9X engine.
