Hexagon’s Portable Metrology Division has launched a wireless contact probe that integrates directly with its Hyperscan large-volume laser scanning system, allowing users to switch between scanning and probing within a single inspection workflow.
The Hyperprobe connects via Bluetooth and supports probing accuracy down to 0.002in (0.05mm), with on-device thumb controls enabling immediate measurement feedback without returning to a laptop. The probe weighs 1.6 lb (0.72kg) and provides up to four hours of continuous battery life.
Darren Goh, product director for handheld scanners at Hexagon, said, “Users can now add Hyperprobe to Hyperscan when contact probing is needed – for example, to measure a hidden feature – while staying in the same inspection workflow. The system supports probing accuracy down to 0.05 mm. The introduction of the Hyperprobe gives Hyperscan customers the ability to probe hidden points within a single, high-productivity inspection workflow. For example, checking bolt housings in a transmission casing, aligning a large composite mould or checking the alignment of fixtures before scanning.”
Because the probe and scanner share a common coordinate system, scan and probe data can be processed and reported together in the user’s metrology software without additional alignment steps. The system’s optical tracker maintains dynamic position tracking throughout, so work can continue if the part or user moves during measurement.
Hyperprobe supports probing modes including circle and plane, and is compatible with Hexagon’s HHscan and Geomagic Control X software, as well as select third-party metrology packages. It is available now to new and existing Hyperscan customers globally.
Hyperscan Ultra covers a measurement volume of up to 18ft (5.5m); Hyperscan Super extends that to 23ft (7m).
