 Mako drone Launch

US firm Kratos Defense and Security Solutions has opened a new weapons testing facility in Nowra, New South Wales in Australia near the Naval Air Station HMAS Albatross, the headquarters for the Royal Australian Navy’s Fleet Air Arm.

Kratos and Australian company Air Affairs will offer drone target systems and range support systems from the site, including unmanned mid and high performance jet target aircraft and manned aircraft tow target services.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Australian Defence Minister Marise Payne said, “Using aerial target systems enables the Australian Defence Force to undertake specialised training effectively and efficiently, using realistic scenarios that ensure our personnel have the skills needed to respond to any threats.

Steve Fendley, president of Kratos’ Unmanned Systems Division, said, “Kratos is committed to supporting the Australian Defence Force’s needs with our range of tactical and target unmanned aerial systems primarily designed for the US Department of Defense with direct applicability to the ADF missions and systems, many of which are common to both countries.
