Safran has completed its takeover of Collins Aerospace’s flight control and actuation activities.
The Collins’ business employs around 4,000 people across eight facilities in Europe and Asia, with additional activities in Poland, USA and India. It generated revenue of US$1.55 billion in 2024.
The Collins flight control and actuation business will be consolidated within Safran Electronics & Defense from August 1.
The France-based aerospace group said in a statement that the acquisition positions the company as a sector leader, with flight control and actuation systems integrated on 180 aircraft platforms.
Olivier Andriès, CEO of Safran, said, “This acquisition offers an opportunity to solidify our position in mission-critical flight control and actuation functions and create a global leader in this domain.
“It will enable us to deliver a comprehensive offering to our customers and position us extremely well for next-generation aircraft. This business fits perfectly with both our product portfolio and our DNA with a high technology content, recurring aftermarket sales and profitable growth.”
Safran has also completed the sale of its North American electro-mechanical actuation business, with approximately US$65M of sales in 2024, to Woodward, Inc. to meet regulatory requirements.
The integrated business will help spur the innovation in flight control and actuation systems needed for the more electric single-aisle aircraft planned by the aerospace industry, added Safran.
