Vaya Space is pioneering new approaches to space access with its Dauntless rocket, set for launch in 2026. The Dauntless rocket features a hybrid engine that combines the safety of solid propellants with the precise control of liquid systems. Its distinctive spiral grain fuel design enhances thrust and efficiency while minimizing environmental impact, aligning with Vaya Space’s commitment to sustainability and cost-effective space access.

Critical to the success of Dauntless is the flight computer and stage controller systems, which ensure precise navigation, real-time trajectory adjustments, smooth stage separation, and payload deployment.

To meet these needs, Vaya Space sought rugged, reliable, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) I/O systems from United Electronic Industries (UEI) capable of handling the complex requirements of space operations.

Vaya Space selected UEI’s DNR-MIL-4 military-grade I/O systems to power both the flight computer and stage controller. These systems offer extensive serial communication capabilities and high-density I/O, with a design that withstands extreme conditions. Compatible with VxWorks RTOS and NASA’s core flight software, the UEI systems enable the full range of guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) functions required for Dauntless.

The rapid delivery of UEI’s COTS solutions allowed Vaya Space to maintain its research and development momentum, keeping the Dauntless project on schedule for 2026.

“We are pleased to collaborate with UEI. The reliability and availability of their I/O solutions are vital to the success of our Dauntless program. This partnership marks a significant milestone for both companies, with UEI’s technology playing a crucial role in advancing Vaya Space’s mission to revolutionize access to space,” said Vaya Space CEO, Kevin Lowdermilk.
