Non-destructive testing (NDT) systems based on terahertz technology are emerging as invaluable tools for a wide range of aerospace applications. With very high resolution and safe, non-contact operation, terahertz technology is being used to inspect and analyze non-conducting materials in applications where traditional NDT methods, such as ultrasound, microwave and X-ray, struggle.
For example, terahertz imaging can be used to measure coating thickness with very high precision, density and uniformity of an adhesive foam, delamination, and detailed imaging of multi-layer structures.
