The first of two production-ready, all-new Boeing T-X aircraft, designed specifically for the US Air Force’s training requirements, completed its first flight over St. Louis on December 20, 2016. The aircraft from Boeing and partner Saab is designed for the US Air Force’s training requirements.
The single-engine trainer, with twin tails and stadium seating, was piloted by lead T-X test pilot Steve Schmidt. “The cockpit is intuitive, spacious and adjustable, so everything is within easy reach,” he commented.
Dan Draeger, Boeing’s chief pilot for Air Force programs, was in the back seat. “It was a smooth flight and I had a great all-around view from the instructor’s seat, which is critical during training.”
The second aircraft, T2, is currently in ground testing and expected to fly in early 2017.
