Sandia conducts alternative pyroshock testing

A 100lb solid steel projectile, fired from Sandia National Laboratories’ 6in gas gun, impacts material on a resonant bar attached to a test article. The impact initiates a wave that travels through the resonant bar assembly into the test article, simulating a stage separation pyroshock event.

The aerospace industry places special demands on its own products and, consequently, also on its suppliers which include the manufacturers of test systems. Gantner Instruments has delivered measurement systems for many years to this industry. The scope of applications ranges from the testing of turboprop equipment for helicopters and aircraft through outdoor testing of jet turbines for large aircraft with up to 1,000 measuring points, primarily for temperature measurement.

For testing the strength of individual components and complete assemblies, we offer data acquisition systems mainly for strain and force measurement, as well as components for controlling and monitoring actuators.
Other applications include fatigue testing of turbine components, and testing of landing gear and hydraulic parts.

Besides focusing on product quality, our customers from the aerospace industry place special emphasis on the quality of methods and processes in an enterprise. This covers everything from development, procurement of materials, manufacturing and calibration through to the delivery process. We have passed these quality assurance checks and all FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests) without objection.
